Painting Contractors in Plymouth, MA

What’s Included

• Interior Wall & Ceiling Painting

Nelson Painting provides comprehensive interior painting services for homeowners throughout Plymouth. Our interior wall and ceiling painting process begins with meticulous surface preparation — patching nail holes, skim-coating imperfections, sanding rough surfaces, and caulking gaps between trim and walls. We use premium Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams paints in the exact sheen you select, whether that is a flat finish for ceilings, eggshell for living areas, or satin for kitchens and bathrooms. Every room is carefully protected with drop cloths and plastic sheeting before any brush or roller touches the surface.

Whether you need a single bedroom refreshed or an entire home repainted, our in-house crews deliver consistent, professional results without subcontractors. Most individual rooms are completed in one to two days, including full preparation, two coats of finish paint, and cleanup. For older Plymouth homes with plaster walls or textured ceilings — common in Chiltonville, Manomet, and the colonial-era streets near Plymouth Center — our team has decades of experience handling the unique challenges these surfaces present, from repairing hairline plaster cracks to addressing water stains with stain-blocking primers like Zinsser or KILZ.

As a family-owned interior painting contractor serving Plymouth since 1960, we understand that inviting painters into your home requires trust. Owner Marc Nelson personally walks every estimate, and the same crew that assesses your project is the crew that completes it. With more than 26,000 housing units in Plymouth and a community of homeowners stretching from Ellisville and Cedarville in the south to Cordage and Fort Standish in the north, our interior painting clients consistently praise our attention to detail, clean work habits, and respect for their living spaces. Call Nelson Painting for a free interior painting estimate and experience the difference three generations of craftsmanship makes.

• Exterior House Painting

Exterior house painting in Plymouth demands far more than just applying a fresh coat of paint. Salt air from Plymouth Harbor and Plymouth Long Beach, harsh nor'easters, and the constant freeze-thaw cycle of New England winters break down exterior coatings faster than in most other regions — and the homes lining the coastline through Manomet, Priscilla Beach, and Cedarville take the worst of it. Nelson Painting's exterior painting process starts with thorough surface preparation — hand scraping and power sanding loose paint, puttying and caulking all gaps, priming bare wood with high-adhesion primer, and addressing any wood rot before a drop of finish paint is applied. We paint clapboard, cedar shingles, wood siding, trim, shutters, fascia, and soffits using premium Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore exterior paints rated for coastal conditions.

Our three-generation commitment to preparation is what separates Nelson Painting from other house painters in Plymouth. Where many exterior painting contractors rush through prep to get to the visible work, we spend the time needed to ensure proper adhesion and long-term durability. This includes window glazing maintenance, re-caulking around door and window frames, and spot-priming every exposed nail head. The result is an exterior paint job that protects your home for years instead of peeling after the first winter. Our crew applies two full coats of premium exterior paint by brush, roller, or spray depending on the surface type and condition.

The best time for exterior painting in Plymouth is late April through mid-November, when temperatures consistently stay above 50 degrees. We recommend booking early because our exterior painting schedule fills quickly during peak season. Whether your home is a historic colonial near Plymouth Rock, a saltbox cottage in Chiltonville, or a waterfront property along White Horse Beach, Nelson Painting has the experience and products to deliver lasting curb appeal. Request your free exterior painting estimate and let us show you why Plymouth families have trusted us with their homes since 1960.

• Cabinet Refinishing

Cabinet refinishing is one of the most cost-effective home improvements available to Plymouth homeowners. With Plymouth's median home value north of $500,000, investing in cabinet refinishing instead of a full kitchen remodel preserves capital while delivering a dramatic visual upgrade. Nelson Painting's cabinet refinishing process starts with removing all doors, drawer fronts, and hardware. Each piece is thoroughly cleaned with a degreaser, sanded for proper adhesion, and coated with a high-quality bonding primer designed specifically for cabinetry surfaces.

We apply two coats of premium cabinet-grade paint using professional spray equipment, delivering a smooth, factory-like finish free of brush marks and roller texture. Our clients across Plymouth — from Manomet Heights and Bayside Beach to the colonial homes in Chiltonville — choose from hundreds of colors across the Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams palettes, with popular choices including classic whites, warm grays, and bold navy tones. For homeowners who prefer a natural wood look, we also offer stain and clear-coat refinishing. Bathroom vanities, built-in shelving, and pantry cabinets receive the same meticulous treatment as kitchen cabinetry.

Most kitchen cabinet refinishing projects in Plymouth are completed within five to seven business days, and we coordinate the work so your kitchen downtime is minimized. Cabinet painting in Plymouth has surged in popularity as homeowners look for affordable alternatives to full renovations, and Nelson Painting has refined our process over years of hands-on experience. If your cabinets are structurally sound but visually tired, refinishing delivers a dramatic transformation. • Deck & Fence Staining

Decks and fences in Plymouth take a relentless beating from coastal humidity, salt air off Plymouth Harbor, UV exposure, and heavy foot traffic. Without proper staining and sealing, pressure-treated lumber turns gray and splinters within a few seasons, while cedar loses its natural beauty and begins to crack. Nelson Painting's deck staining service starts with power washing the surface to remove dirt, mildew, and old finish, followed by adequate drying time before any stain is applied. We use high-quality penetrating stains from brands like Cabot, TWP, and Benjamin Moore Arborcoat that soak into wood fibers rather than sitting on top, providing protection from within.

We offer transparent, semi-transparent, and solid stain options depending on the condition and species of your wood. New decks benefit from transparent or semi-transparent stains that showcase the natural grain, while older decks with weathering or previous stain may need a solid-color stain for full coverage. Fence staining follows the same preparation and application standards — we clean, dry, and apply penetrating stain to every board, including the areas most prone to moisture contact. A properly stained deck or fence in Plymouth typically lasts three to five years before needing reapplication, depending on sun exposure and traffic.

Deck staining in Plymouth is best done in late spring through early fall when temperatures are moderate and the wood is dry. We also provide deck restoration services for severely weathered wood, including sanding, brightening treatments, and board replacement before staining. Whether you have a small backyard deck in Manomet, a wraparound porch in Ellisville, or a multi-level entertaining deck overlooking Plymouth Long Beach, Nelson Painting has the experience to restore and protect it. Call us for a free deck and fence staining estimate and keep your outdoor living spaces looking their best year after year.

• Power Washing & Soft Washing

Power washing and soft washing are essential maintenance services for homes in Plymouth, where coastal moisture promotes algae, mildew, and mold growth on siding, decks, walkways, and driveways. Nelson Painting offers both high-pressure power washing for durable hard surfaces like concrete, brick, and stone, and gentle soft washing for delicate materials including vinyl siding, painted wood, composite decking, and stucco. Our soft wash process uses a specialized cleaning solution — a mild blend of sodium hypochlorite, TSP, and surfactant — applied at low pressure to dissolve organic growth without damaging the surface underneath.

For homes near Plymouth Harbor, the cottages along White Horse Beach, and the waterfront properties stretching south through Manomet and Cedarville, salt spray accelerates the buildup of grime and organic matter on exterior surfaces. Regular soft washing removes this buildup, preserving paint adhesion and extending the life of your exterior coatings. We also soft wash fences, sheds, garage doors, outdoor furniture, and pool surrounds. Most residential soft washing jobs are completed in one to two hours, making it one of the fastest ways to dramatically improve your home's curb appeal. Power washing is also a critical preparation step before any exterior painting project, ensuring paint bonds to a clean, sound surface.

Many homeowners in Plymouth schedule annual soft washing to keep their homes looking clean and well-maintained without the expense of repainting. Nelson Painting's power washing services are available as a standalone service or bundled with exterior painting projects at a reduced rate. Whether you need your driveway and patio pressure washed before a summer gathering or your entire house soft washed ahead of an exterior painting project, our experienced crews deliver thorough results with careful attention to landscaping and surrounding surfaces. • Carpentry & Wood Repair

Painting over rotted or damaged wood is one of the most common mistakes homeowners make — the paint fails prematurely, and the underlying damage continues to spread. Nelson Painting provides carpentry and wood repair services specifically designed to address structural issues before any painting begins. Our carpenters handle rot replacement on everything from a single board to entire sections of siding, including clapboard repair, cedar shingle replacement, fascia board replacement, and window frame restoration. For Plymouth homes exposed to coastal weather — particularly the cottages and saltbox houses scattered through Manomet Beach, Bayside Beach, and Cedarville Landing — wood rot around windows, door frames, and trim is especially common and should be addressed promptly.

Our exterior carpentry services also include deck repairs and board replacement, gutter replacement and adjustment, handrail installation, and siding patching. By handling both the carpentry repairs and the painting in a single project, you eliminate the hassle of coordinating multiple contractors and ensure the repaired surfaces are properly primed and finished immediately. Nelson Painting has served as a one-stop solution for Plymouth homeowners who need both structural repair and professional painting for over 65 years.

Interior carpentry work is also available, including wainscoting installation, chair rail installation, crown molding, and baseboard replacement. Many older homes in Plymouth's historic neighborhoods — Chiltonville, Plymouth Center, and the colonial-era streets near the National Monument to the Forefathers — have original trim and molding that needs repair or replacement before interior painting can deliver the best results. With nearly 80 percent of Plymouth's housing units owner-occupied, our customers are typically homeowners investing in long-term care of their property rather than landlords looking for cosmetic fixes. Our crew assesses every surface during the estimate walk-through and identifies any carpentry work needed before we begin painting. This comprehensive approach is why homeowners in Plymouth trust Nelson Painting to handle their complete home exterior and interior improvement projects.

• Interior Trim, Doors & Windows

Interior trim painting is where craftsmanship truly shows. Baseboards, crown molding, door frames, window casings, chair rails, and built-in cabinetry all require precision brushwork and proper preparation to achieve clean, sharp lines and a smooth finish. Nelson Painting's interior trim specialists in Plymouth take the time to sand, fill, and prime all woodwork before applying finish coats. We use high-quality semi-gloss and satin finishes from Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams that resist scuffing, clean easily, and hold up in high-traffic areas of your home.

Door painting is one of our most requested interior services. Whether you want your interior doors refreshed in crisp white, painted a bold accent color, or finished in a natural wood stain, we remove hardware, prep the surface, and apply smooth coats that transform the look of your hallways and rooms. Window frames and casings receive the same detailed treatment — we scrape any peeling paint, prime bare areas, and apply two coats of durable finish paint. For homes with stained woodwork that you want to keep natural, we offer polyurethane and varnish refinishing to restore luster and protection.

Many Plymouth-area homeowners choose to update their trim and doors as part of a larger interior painting project, and we offer package pricing that makes this an economical addition. Historic homes in Plymouth — particularly in Chiltonville, the colonial-era streets near Plymouth Rock, and the older sections of Plymouth Center — often have original wood trim that deserves careful restoration rather than replacement. The town has a median home age that runs deep into the 19th century in many of these neighborhoods, with millwork that's irreplaceable once stripped or damaged. Our crew has decades of experience painting intricate molding profiles, multi-pane window frames, and custom built-ins. Whether your project is a single room refresh or a whole-house interior repaint, Nelson Painting ensures every trim detail is finished to the same high standard that has defined our work since 1960.

• Color Consultation & Design

Choosing the right paint colors for your home can feel overwhelming — there are thousands of options across the Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams color palettes alone. Nelson Painting offers color consultation services to help Plymouth homeowners find the perfect palette for their interior and exterior projects. During the estimate walk-through, Marc Nelson discusses your vision, the architectural style of your home, the existing elements you want to complement, and the mood you want each room or exterior to convey. We bring fan decks and color samples directly to your home so you can evaluate options in your own lighting conditions.

Before committing to a final color, we apply test patches directly on your walls or siding so you can see exactly how the color looks at different times of day and under different lighting conditions. This eliminates the guesswork and the risk of choosing a color from a small chip only to be disappointed when it covers an entire room. We also advise on sheen selection — flat for ceilings and low-traffic areas, eggshell or satin for living spaces, semi-gloss for trim and high-moisture rooms like bathrooms and kitchens. Our color guidance extends to coordinating complementary tones between rooms for a cohesive whole-home palette.

For exterior color selection in Plymouth, we consider factors unique to our coastal town — how the changing light off Plymouth Harbor and Plymouth Long Beach affects color perception, how salt air interacts with certain paint formulas, and which colors complement the neighborhood context. Plymouth's historic district near the National Monument to the Forefathers and Pilgrim Memorial State Park has its own architectural character that calls for traditional New England palettes, while the newer construction in places like The Pinehills and the seasonal communities of Manomet Heights have more freedom for contemporary choices. Our experience painting hundreds of homes in Plymouth helps you make a confident choice. Nelson Painting's color consultation is included with every painting project at no additional charge, because we believe the right color is just as important as the right preparation.
