Specialized Restoration Painting

Comprehensive Solutions for Every Type of Damage

Each type of damage requires a different approach. Our 65+ years of experience means we know exactly which primers, sealers, and techniques will permanently restore your surfaces.

Water Damage Restoration Painting

Water damage from burst pipes, ice dams, roof leaks, or basement flooding leaves behind stained ceilings, warped drywall, and potential mold growth. Simply painting over water damage without proper preparation leads to recurring stains, peeling paint, and hidden moisture problems that worsen over time.

Our water damage restoration process starts with thorough moisture testing to confirm all affected areas are completely dry. We then remove and replace compromised drywall sections, skim-coat repaired areas with setting-type joint compound for maximum durability, and sand everything smooth. A shellac-based stain-blocking primer like Zinsser B-I-N seals mineral deposits that cause bleed-through, followed by two coats of premium paint matched to your existing finish.

For New England homes, ice dam damage is one of our most common restoration jobs. When ice builds up along roof edges and forces meltwater under shingles, the resulting ceiling and wall damage requires careful drywall replacement, mold-resistant priming, and texture matching to restore a seamless finish. We often recommend repainting entire ceilings rather than just patched areas for a uniform appearance.

In-House Crews Only

Our dedicated six-person crew handles every project personally. No subcontractors means consistent quality, direct communication, and the same trusted team from start to finish.

From Damage to Done

Our Proven Step-by-Step Damage Restoration Process

Every restoration project follows a proven sequence designed to deliver permanent results. Here is exactly what happens after you contact us.

1

Call us or fill out our contact form and we will prioritize your restoration project. Because damage worsens with every day of delay — water breeds mold, smoke odor penetrates deeper, and stains set permanently — we schedule restoration assessments as quickly as possible. If Marc Nelson General Contracting is handling your cleanup, we coordinate timing so painting begins the moment structural work is complete.

2

Marc Nelson personally walks every restoration job to assess the full scope of damage. We check for moisture levels in walls and ceilings, identify all areas affected by water staining, soot, or smoke residue, and determine which drywall sections need replacement versus repair. This thorough assessment prevents surprises mid-project and ensures our estimate covers everything needed to restore your space.

3

This is where our decades of experience matter most. We remove all compromised drywall, cutting back to clean and dry material. New drywall is installed, taped, and finished with setting-type joint compound for maximum durability. For smoke damage, surfaces are cleaned with dry sponges and TSP solutions before any primer is applied. Every surface is sanded smooth and inspected before moving to the priming stage.

4

Standard primer will not work for restoration. Water stain minerals bleed through regular latex paint, and smoke odors penetrate standard primers within weeks. We use Zinsser B-I-N shellac-based primer for odor blocking and stain sealing — the same product trusted by restoration professionals nationwide. For mold-affected areas, we apply mold-killing primer before topcoating with mold-resistant paint. Every surface gets the right specialty primer for its specific type of damage.

5

With properly sealed and primed surfaces, we apply two coats of premium interior paint in the finish and color of your choice. We match existing paint colors and sheens so restored areas blend seamlessly with undamaged sections. For larger projects, we recommend repainting full walls or ceilings rather than just repaired areas for the most uniform appearance. All trim, doors, and woodwork affected by damage are refinished as well.

6

Before we consider the job complete, Marc conducts a final walkthrough with you to inspect every restored surface. We check for uniform color and sheen, verify all drywall repairs are invisible, confirm odor sealing is effective, and ensure nothing was missed. We do not leave until you are completely satisfied with the results.

7

For insurance-covered restoration, we compile a complete documentation package including before-and-after photographs, itemized material and labor invoices, scope-of-work descriptions, and completion certificates. This package is formatted for smooth claims processing so you can submit to your insurance company with confidence. We coordinate with your adjuster throughout the process to minimize delays and disputes.
