Painting-Adjacent Carpentry

Rot and Wood Damage Stop Your Paint Job Before It Starts

If your painter finds soft trim, crumbling siding, or water-damaged fascia during prep, the paint will not hold. We handle the carpentry repair and the painting in one project so you are not coordinating two contractors.

For Homeowners

Soft trim, rotted window sills, peeling clapboards — wood damage does not fix itself, and painting over it just hides the problem. Our crew handles the carpentry repair AND the paint as a single project, so you get one estimate, one schedule, and one team accountable for the finished look. No coordinating between two contractors.

For Property Managers

Deferred maintenance shows fast on commercial buildings — fascia rot, storefront trim damage, soffit failures. We handle exterior carpentry repairs across office buildings, retail storefronts, and multi-unit properties. We provide insurance documentation and COI within 24 hours, and we phase work to minimize disruption to tenants and customers.

What We Repair and Replace

Carpentry Services Built Around Your Paint Project

Our carpentry work focuses on the wood components that need to be sound before paint goes on. We repair or replace damaged material, prime and seal every surface, then paint to match the rest of your home.

Wood rot is the most common reason homeowners need carpentry before painting. Moisture from rain, snow, ice dams, and coastal humidity works its way behind paint and into the wood beneath. Once rot takes hold, painting over it only hides the problem temporarily while the damage spreads.

Our crew probes every surface during the estimate walk-through. Soft spots, discoloration, and bubbling paint all point to rot hiding underneath. We remove the compromised wood completely, treat adjacent areas to prevent further spread, install new lumber matched to the original profile, then prime and paint for a seamless finish.

In Southeastern Massachusetts, freeze-thaw cycles accelerate rot significantly. Water enters through hairline cracks, freezes and expands overnight, then thaws and soaks deeper into the grain. A board that looks fine in summer may be soft by spring. Our estimates account for this seasonal reality.

Repair Beats Replace

How We Save Wood Rot Damage Most Painters Tell You to Replace

Most painters see a rotted shutter or trim board and tell you to throw it out. We rebuild. Watch how Marc saves a custom shutter rotted clean through — no replacement, no contractor referral, just careful prep and the right epoxy system. Carpentry and paint, one phone call.

From Assessment to Finished Paint

How Our Carpentry and Painting Process Works

Every carpentry repair follows the same quality-controlled sequence. Here is what to expect from the moment Marc walks your property to the final inspection.

1

Marc personally walks your property to evaluate every wood surface. He probes trim, siding, fascia, window sills, and door frames looking for soft spots, discoloration, and pest damage. You receive a detailed written scope within 24 hours that separates carpentry repairs from painting work so you see exactly what each costs.

2

Once you approve the estimate, we lock in the full scope: which boards get replaced, what gets repaired in place, and what materials will be used. If the scope of structural damage exceeds repair-level carpentry, we coordinate with Marc Nelson General Contracting for the larger renovation work.

3

Our crew carefully removes all compromised material, cutting back to solid wood. We inspect the substrate behind the damage for moisture intrusion, pest activity, or secondary rot. Any hidden issues found at this stage are documented and discussed with you before we proceed.

4

New lumber is cut and fitted to match the original profile. We use pressure-treated wood where appropriate and marine-grade fasteners for coastal properties. Every joint is sealed with premium exterior caulking. On older homes, we match historic trim profiles to maintain the architectural character.

5

Before any finish coat goes on, every repaired surface receives a coat of high-quality primer. New wood is back-primed on all six sides before installation. This sealing step is what prevents the same moisture problem from returning in a few years. It is the step most standalone carpenters skip.

6

Repaired areas receive two coats of premium exterior paint color-matched to the existing finish. Because the same crew that repaired the wood is now painting it, the transition between old and new is seamless. No lap marks, no color mismatches, no finger-pointing between a carpenter and a painter.

7

We walk the completed work with you to verify every repair meets our standards. We check paint adhesion, caulk lines, trim alignment, and overall appearance. Most carpentry-and-paint projects complete in 2 to 5 days depending on scope. You are not signing off until you are satisfied.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Carpentry Services

Have a question about carpentry repairs, costs, or what to expect? Here are the answers to the questions homeowners ask most often.

General Questions

During the estimate walk-through, Marc probes every wood surface with an awl and inspects for telltale signs: bubbling or peeling paint, soft spots, discoloration, and areas where caulking has separated. Once the crew starts prep work, additional damage sometimes reveals itself behind paint layers. We document any newly discovered issues and discuss them with you before adding to the scope.
