Separate the metals or replace the fastener with one that matches the metal it is going into, remove the corrosion properly, treat and spot-prime, and only then coat. On a gutter or a flashing detail that sometimes means telling you the durable answer is a small piece of new material rather than paint, and we would rather say that than take the painting money twice.
It also explains why the same three spots on your house keep failing while everything around them holds. Those are the junctions, and until the junction is dealt with the paint there will keep lifting.
Exterior House Painting

The hardware is where a coastal deck actually fails. Salt attacks fasteners, joist hangers, and ledger bolts long before it destroys the decking, and mixed metals in those connections corrode faster still. A deck that looks perfectly sound can be compromised at the connections, and we will tell you plainly what we find.
Semi-transparent stains wear gradually rather than peeling, which matters on a surface you will refresh every few years.
Power Washing & Soft Washing
On this coast washing is the most important maintenance task there is. Salt residue left on a coating draws moisture continuously and takes years off the paint underneath.
Vinyl and aluminium siding, roof shingles, and older wood clapboard need soft washing: low pressure with a solution that lifts salt and kills mildew at the root rather than blasting the surface layer off. On aluminium siding the chalk must come off completely rather than be rinsed, or nothing will bond to it.
On close-set Fairhaven lots, containment matters. Wash water and runoff reach the property next door at these setbacks, and we plan for that rather than leaving your neighbour to discover it.
