What’s Included

Plywood & Panel Siding
If your house was built between the sixties and the eighties, there is a good chance the siding is a plywood or engineered panel product: four-by-eight sheets with vertical grooves cut into the face. It is a genuinely serviceable material when it is maintained, and it fails fast when it is not.
The failures are always in the same three places. First, the bottom edge. Panel siding wicks water up through its exposed lower edge like a straw, and once the plies at the bottom start to swell and separate, nothing applied to the face will stop it. That bottom edge should be primed and coated, and it is the surface most often left bare because nobody looks at it.
Second, the grooves. The vertical grooves cut through the top ply and expose end grain along their whole length. Water sits in them, they hold dirt, and a roller passed quickly over the face bridges the groove without ever coating the inside of it. Grooves need to be brushed out properly, which is slow and which is exactly what gets skipped.
Third, the horizontal joints between sheets, where a Z-flashing should be doing the work. Where that flashing is missing, damaged, or has been caulked over, water gets straight into the panel edges above and below.
Delamination is the endpoint: the plies separate, the face becomes soft and fibrous, and the panel is no longer a substrate anything will bond to. That section has to be replaced. We will tell you honestly when a wall has passed that point rather than coating it and taking the money.
Where the panels are sound, an acrylic system over a proper stain-blocking primer, with the bottom edges and grooves genuinely coated, gives this material a long and unremarkable life. It just has to actually be done.
Exterior House Painting
Exterior work is roughly seventy percent preparation. We wash the envelope to remove chalking and mildew, scrape and sand every failing edge back to sound material, and prime bare wood before any finish coat goes on.
On Somerset's post-war stock the failure pattern is consistent: south and west elevations chalk first, the rake and fascia boards are almost always the worst thing on the house because they are hardest to reach and get skipped, and garage door trim and low siding near grade go early.
Original aluminium windows are common in this vintage and they bring their own issues. The frames chalk and pit, the glazing beads harden, and they are a bad candidate for a quick coat of house paint. We will tell you what is worth coating and what is not.
We caulk the joints that actually move with an elastomeric sealant that stays flexible through freeze-thaw. On panel siding we are careful about which joints get sealed, because a horizontal panel joint that is meant to drain behind a flashing must not be caulked shut.
On close-set lots, access and containment matter. Staging has to fit between houses and the neighbouring property is close enough to be in the work zone.
Interior Wall & Ceiling Painting
Every job starts with the parts nobody photographs. We wash surfaces to remove hand oils and cooking film that stop paint bonding, scrape and sand failing areas, spot-prime every patch and every stain, and caulk where walls meet trim.

Power Washing & Soft Washing
Washing is the cheapest maintenance there is and the most commonly skipped. Removing mildew, chalk, and grime before it becomes established extends the life of a coating by years.
On panel siding, high pressure is genuinely destructive rather than merely inadvisable. Pressurised water forces its way into the grooves, behind the panel edges, and between the plies, and delamination that would have taken another decade arrives the following spring.
Vinyl and aluminium siding, roof shingles, and older wood all need soft washing: low pressure with a solution that kills mildew at the root rather than blasting the surface layer off. On aluminium the chalk must come off completely rather than be rinsed, or nothing will bond to it.
